 1621, from Latin hirsutus "rough, shaggy," related to hirtus "shaggy," 
and possibly to horrere "to bristle with fear."

Hirsute premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2007 and went on to play at over 50 film festivals around the world, winning 9 festival prizes including Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Film at the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival, the Kathryn Tucker Windham Storytelling Award at the 2008 Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival and audience awards at both the 2009 Science Fiction + Fantasy Short Film Festival at the Seattle Experience Music Project Science Fiction Museum and the 2008 Northwest Film Festival.
