The classic Canadian experimental short by Arthur Lipsett: It inspired Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove trailer (which Lipsett declined to direct): This excellent short doc by Aren Hanson played right before my short Hirsute in a programme of short films at the Vancouver International Film Festival a few years ago and I was always too nervous to give it my proper attention, until now: Happy New Year! I always like to start the new year by looking back at the past. This peculiar short was made with friends one weekend in Toronto many years ago on an old Hi-8 handycam. It is a fitting inauguration to 2012 as some of the themes from this film are going to be recurring in this coming year: Bizarre Czech animation of a bouncy superhero battling Hitler and company. Back when animation seemed to made with Jello: A wonderfully dizzying Polish short film. The set moves instead of the camera (I think): My friend SJ Chiro directed this remake of Jørgen Leth's The Perfect Human: Simple, delightful, Marcel.
