A new section here on Bunt. I will be listing every movie I see, as I see them. No review or rating or anything, mainly just so I can keep track (if you really want to know what I thought, leave a comment). Starting with: Senna.
![]() The Artist, a silent film about the rise of talking pictures. Missed this at Cannes, must see at TIFF! ![]() "Last month Apple filed a motion to stop Samsung from selling its Galaxy Tablet and some smartphones based on patents that the iPad-maker holds. When Samsung filed its opposition brief Monday evening, patent blog Foss noticed that one exhibit it included was an image taken from Kubrick’s film. The image includes tablet-like devices, and Samsung’s lawyers are attempting to use it as proof that designs for the iPad and iPhone were established before Apple started filing patents for them." LINK ![]() "The story of how a mediocre movie became a good tool for scientists dates back to 1988, when Robert Levenson, a psychology professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and his graduate student, James Gross, started soliciting movie recommendations from colleagues, film critics, video store employees and movie buffs. They were trying to identify short film clips that could reliably elicit a strong emotional response in laboratory settings." Link I'm known to cry at the drop of a hat, but the clip in question doesn't do much for me: ![]() "The screenplay is the most magnificent one that I've ever read but I couldn't find that same emotion on screen," he said. "A clearer and more conventional narrative would have helped the film without, in my opinion, lessening its beauty and its impact. Frankly, I'm still trying to figure out what I'm doing there and what I was supposed to add in that context! What's more, Terry himself never managed to explain it to me clearly." Link I don't think the structure was too convoluted, but I agree that Sean Penn's character was completely unnecessary. ![]() A.J. will be in Toronto on Wednesday, August 17 for a screening of his short film Madame Perrault's Bluebeard as part of the Worldwide Short Film Festival's monthly screening series A World of Shorts, in the programme Fairy Tale Redux. The programme plays at 6pm and 8pm at the NFB Mediatheque, and A.J. will be in attendance for a Q&A following both screenings. |
